The Louisiana Workforce Commission says there were 4,492 initial unemployment claims last week, down from 4,656 from the previous week. For the comparable week ending Aug. 16, 2008, there were 2,252 initial claims. Continued benefit weeks for those still seeking jobs fell 1.7 percent to 64,319 from the previous week's 65,449. For the comparable week a year ago, there were 26,670 weeks of continued jobless benefits.
